HI – I’M BRENDA!

LET ME TELL YOU WHY I WANT TO CONTINUE TO BE YOUR DISTRICT COUNCILLOR.

I have an unwavering passion for Muskoka. I have always felt grateful to have grown up here and even though when I was young, I wanted to move away and experience the world, I always saw myself moving back home and making a difference in some way.

I know many are disillusioned with government. I believe in the process and that it can be done in a transparent and inclusive way to make sure you are informed and included. To me, it’s about creating partnerships, studying other successful models, building strong relationships and working with diverse partners to find solutions.

Representing you these past 4 years as your Deputy Mayor and Town and District Councillor has been one of the most meaningful things I've done.

I've always believed good local government isn't flashy. It's steady. It's thoughtful. It's showing up, listening carefully, and making decisions that hold up ten years from now and beyond, not just until the next headline or next election. That's how I've worked on council, and it's how I'll keep working if you send me back.

Bracebridge / Muskoka is a kind, connected community, and fostering that means responsible growth, a measured plan, healthy finances, innovative solutions, real environmental protection, affordability and supports, housing and health care that reaches beyond the hospital. Some of this work, and more, is already underway and I want the chance to continue to be your voice around the Town and District tables.

None of this works without communication - I take that seriously - returning calls, showing up at events, being in meetings and genuinely being a part of the community is incredibly important to me. I will continue to explain the why behind a vote, not just the what and make every decision with the full picture in view: how it will land on the next council; how it will affect generations to come, not just this term.

I truly care about you, about our community, about our business owners and about the longevity and health of Muskoka — it's the reason I ran the first time, and it's the reason I'm asking for your trust again this October.

Together, I look forward to finding solutions to our challenges and celebrating our wins!

ABOUT ME

I currently live in Bracebridge with my partner, Joe Rockbrune and my step-son Luke Rockbrune. Luke is with us part time.

I am very blessed that I have my extended family close living in Muskoka. My mom Joanne Rhodes and her partner Steve Rose, My Dad Terry Rhodes and my sister Erin Rhodes. My brother, Lee Rhodes and his wife, Jennifer and their two young sons, Heath and Colson. Now more than ever, I want to make sure our community is strong as it can be so Heath and Colson will have options that youth before him might not have had.

I grew up in Gravenhurst and graduated from both Gravenhurst Public and Gravenhurst High School.

I love the outdoors and cherish Muskoka because it is a beautiful playground for me to explore. I enjoy swimming, hiking, and cross country skiing - especially night skiing. I am excited by meditation and mindfulness and the power of your own mind. I am a sports enthusiast but these days I find myself watching more than playing.

I have always been extremely involved in the communities that I have been a part of. I have a deep love for Muskoka - I have always felt grateful that I grew up here and had the opportunity to come back to work, live and play!
